Even though the summer is still far away I can’t help but get excited already by all the lovely sweet things that I’m going to make when the summer arrives. There are a lot of different reasons to love everything that the summertime brings to the table, but only a handful of them are more exciting than the different desserts that you’ll have the opportunity to try when the weather is its warmest.
There is just something about the summer that really brings out some pretty light, pretty delicate, but very exciting (and always delicious) flavors that you just can’t quite enjoy as much any other time of the year. If you’ve been wondering what my favorite summertime sweets are, I’m going to break down five of them below!
It doesn’t get any better than a blueberry tart
A blueberry tart looks a lot more difficult to pull off than it really is, thanks in large part to the convenience of frozen puff pastry and the almost infinite availability of fresh blueberries throughout the summer.
Top with a little bit of ice cream (vanilla with a touch of lemon on top), and you’ll come pretty close to desert heaven.
Blackberry crumble cake is perfect later in the summer time season
Another of the favorite summertime berries, you can’t go wrong with a blackberry crumble cake – especially if you’re looking to serve something at dinner that you all can comfortably enjoy the next morning for breakfast. Sweet but not cloyingly so, perfectly prepared blackberry crumble is something that you won’t ever forget.
Strawberry ice cream sandwiches are really something special
The ultimate “grab and go” summertime sweet as far as I’m concerned, strawberry ice cream sandwiches – made with frozen shortcakes if you really want to get fancy – are best enjoyed with the summer sun is hottest. There’s just something about these ice cream sandwiches that scream Americana, and you’d be hard-pressed to find even a handful of people that aren’t in love with everything that they bring to the table.
Peach and raspberry parfaits are perfect for a picnic
If you are looking for a desert in the summer time that is a little bit fancier, but one that’s perfect for a romantic picnic, you’re going to want to reach for a parfait.
While it’s possible to pull off a bunch of different parfaits all year round, the peach and raspberry parfaits really hit a sweet spot throughout the months of June, July, and August. Sure, you can get your hands on flash frozen peaches and raspberries all year round now, but nothing beats these ingredients when they are at their freshest right off of the vine.
My old standard is a big-time fan favorite all throughout the US, and for good reason – it’s almost impossible to top Georgia peaches and cream as far as the ultimate summertime dessert is concerned.
Simple, straightforward, and effortless to prepare, it’s probably almost impossible to find even just a handful of people that would decide to skip dessert when this is on the menu. There’s just something about the flavor profile that really plays nicely across the board, and gives everyone exactly what they’re looking for in a summertime dessert.
